While I am not a fan of long-term fasting and detox diets and don’t promote or use them in my health coaching practice, I understand that a number of people are interested in these kinds of diets, and many have maintained these diets with varying results. Please exercise personal discretion and wisdom when making any changes to your diet. For best results, please seek the advice and support of several trained health and wellness professionals before beginning any diet program such as the one presented in this book.
What path do you follow when your mother is the foremost authority on womb healing, fasting, and other health concerns that affect black American communities? What’s it like having a mother who makes you drink green juices, won’t buy you junk food, and has you give up all food for days at a time? You can act out and be sent away to gain some perspective, or, you can straighten up, fly right, and join her. If you’re Supa Nova Slom, it’s both, and then you write a book about it.
Supa Nova Slom, Hip Hop’s very own Medicine Man, has taken core values of holistic health – adequate sunlight, green foods, detox, and exercise – and packaged them in the most accessible format I haven’t seen. Ever.
The Remedy: The Five-Week Power Plan to Detox Your System, Combat the Fat, and Rebuild Your Mind and Body is a two-stage program – stage one for The Remedy and stage two for the Supa Power Plan. Supa Nova will introduce you to his “Chlorophyllian Cleanse”, a five day juice and “Mega Supa Greens” juice fast that you’ll make yourself, and then show you how to go from careless omnivore to conscious eater, guiding you each step of the way with practical transition tips, self-care rituals, and recipes, and a maintenance plan.
You’ll also find testimonials from some top names in the entertainment industry, including Erykah Badu, Tyson Beckford, and Jim Jones. There’s even commentary from Doug Green, founder of NYC’s Liquiteria.
While Supa Nova Slom himself practices a high raw and green plant-based diet, he’s not out to convert you or make you give up your favorite foods. Instead, he invites you to consider the effects poor eating habits and food buying choices are having on your overall health and well-being, and presents you with an alternative.

If all the talk about buying locally grown, Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food, community supported agriculture, farmer’s markets, yard sharing, and community gardens hasn’t got you on the sustainable food/homesteading bandwagon yet, then this revised and updated classic will.
The Rodale Whole Foods Cookbook: With More Than 1,000 for Choosing, Cooking, and Preserving Natural Ingredients takes you from market to table, with sections on choosing health-supportive and organic ingredients, tips on selecting the best cookware and equipment, stocking your kitchen with staples, canning and preserving, and, recognizing that key ingredients may be missing from your pantry, provides a simple substitutions list.
With this expanded and updated volume, home cooks will satisfy every palate, whether serving staunch vegans (baked peppers stuffed with fava beans and bulgur), hardcore foodies (osso buco), the health-conscious (spicy baked salmon), or your own sweet tooth (saucepan mocha brownies).
The Rodale Whole Foods Cookbook is a comprehensive guide to home cooking suitable for beginners yet robust enough for serious home cooks.

Spring is my favorite time of year, and not just because my birthday comes soon after Equinox!
Even though I now live in Paradise, where the seasons are simply varying degrees of hot, very hot and humid, still hot, and gets cooler in the evening, I can still observe the seasons changing by the behaviors of birds and plant life as well as my own internal changes.
This past winter I used the hibernating aspect of the season to focus on self-care, getting the recommended annual health check-ups for my age range, slowing all the way down to give my time and energy to what I really wanted to say yes to, making sure to move my body, and laying the groundwork for new friendships, collaborations, and projects.
I'm happy to announce the launch of my newest program specifically for students and graduates of Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I continue to gain so much value from my training and staying connected to the school as an alumni and Graduate Ambassador, and I'm always looking for new ways to talk about my training and its impact on my life and business.
Even though I've always led with my Health Coach title, its connection to my work in local food advocacy and community food development hasn't always been clear, so I wanted to create a supplemental program that also mentors health coaches to integrate the good food movement (community supported agriculture, urban farming, agritourism, farm to table, eating seasonally, community gardening, etc) into their health coaching practice.
Through Community Foodworks for Integrative Nutrition Health Coaches, new students will receive complementary access to my six-month program when they enroll through my referral as a Graduate Ambassador. In addition to speaking with prospective students about the IIN experience, Graduate Ambassadors can extend special tuition savings to them (ask me how!). Grab your front row seat to one of the most dynamic and engaging wellness conferences of the year!
Health is more than what we eat and how much exercise we get. As an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, even though food and physical activity is important, much of my coaching focuses on the influences ALL of our choices have on our health and how we feel in our bodies.
Each year, Institute for Integrative Nutrition hosts a conference just for students and graduates, and you're invited!
During this 2-day event on Saturday, March 25th and Sunday, March 26th, you can livestream the conference and listen to the latest wellness and lifestyle news from Dr. Andrew Weill, Chris Guillebeau, IIN founder Joshua Rosenthal and others!
You'll also hear what a few of IIN's successful graduates are up to.
What do you want to know about health coaching and the Professional Training Program at IIN? Let me know in the comments and I'll be in touch!
Integrative Nutrition Health Coaches are passionate advocates for health and happiness.
More than just practitioners, we’ve experienced our own personal journeys of transformation, reclaiming and recovering a sense of personal power that comes with healing and reconnecting to our inner wisdom.
Because we’re always working on ourselves, we demonstrate to our clients that committing to a lifestyle of health and well-being is an ongoing process that changes over time, no matter where we are in our bodies and in our lives.
Health Coaches work alongside doctors and other health practitioners, in corporate and non-profit settings, and in private practice to support their clients in making long-term sustainable changes in their lives.
Join us as we work to increase the awareness of health coaching as a critical and integral part of the healthcare system.
Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) helped me recover from chronic sinus allergies, painful and irregular periods, and fatigue. During that time, I used health coach training to inform my work as a community food educator, and farmers' market manager. I've hosted cooking demos, farm and farmers' market tours throughout NYS, co-led a community supported agriculture project, founded a local foods buying club, co-facilitated a neighborhood community food council, moderated and sat in on panel discussions, and so much more.
What's possible for you?
As an Ambassador, I am available to speak with you about my training and whether or not health coaching is right for you as a career option or in helping you meet your health goals.
How to get started
Visit IIN's website to see what they're doing to increase awareness of the positive impact of health coaches within the healthcare system.
