Community Food Change Agent Galvanizes Her Foodie Friends to Celebrate Her Birthday by Giving Back
Tickets now on sale; “Melissa Danielle Birthday Presence: Good Food for Bed-Stuy” raises funds for Bed-Stuy Farm Share’s Low-income Fund. Raffle tickets include prizes from Brooklyn area businesses and a Vitamix 5200.
Brooklyn, NY, March 21, 2011 – Good Food Consultant and Native Bed-Stuy resident Melissa Danielle believes that foodies can be food justice activists too, and sets out to prove it by hosting a birthday fete that’s also a fundraiser for her CSA, the Bed-Stuy Farm Share.
The money raised will help cushion the project’s revolving loan fund, a system that allows members on payment plans and members paying with food stamps to participate without affecting the upfront capital needed by the farmers.
The event, scheduled for Friday, March 25th, will be held at Peaches Pantry, a new farm to table concept by Ben Grossman and Craig Samuel, owners of Peaches Restaurant and Peaches Hothouse in Bed-Stuy and The Smoke Joint in nearby Fort Greene. Dinner will be served family-style, with beverage selections from foodie favorites Fresh Ginger Ale by Bruce Cost, Harlem Brewing Company, and Communal Brands.
But what’s a birthday party without birthday cake? Guests will enjoy slices of Hothouse’s own Bourbon Brown Butter Cake topped with a scoop of Van Leeuwen Artisanal Ice Cream. The fundraiser also features two raffles, one included in the ticket price with prizes that include a 30-day pass to Sacred Brooklyn, a nascent yoga studio on the Bed-Stuy/Clinton Hill border, an Equal Exchange gift box, and tickets to Escape Maker’s upcoming Travel Expo in the borough. There’s also a premium raffle for the highly coveted Vitamix 5200, a high-performance blender usually found in better juice bars and commercial kitchens.
Tickets are being sold online at http://melissadaniellebirthdaypresence.eventbrite.com with limited tickets available on the day of the event.
